Creative Thinking Workshop

This 3 hour workshop is designed to give your team some interesting tools to use for creative thinking and thinking outside the box, as well putting in practice some fun and creative exercises that will open up the right side of our brains and build bonds in the team.

Pulling on techniques from Gestalt therapy, art therapy and expression therapy, we'll concentrate on 3 main areas: Movement, Expression and Creative Thinking.

The workshop therefore serves two purposes – to get the team thinking creatively and then to teach the participants some ways they can use creative thinking to be more effective in their work as well as in their personal lives

The overview of the workshop is as follows:

Stage 1 - Movement

Movement helps us to get in touch with the moment – the here and now, and to put aside outside concerns. It helps us to open our minds by breaking us out of the normal rhythm

  • Warm up exercises
  • Moving games: Friends and enemies / Meet and greet
  • Trust exercises: Blind running / Lifting

Stage 2 – Expression

With expression exercises we begin to open up our instinctive creativity. The use of improvisation demands a gut reaction – picking the ball up and running with it

  • Warm up exercises: Pass the sounds shape / Throw the name shape
  • Introduce the person to your right - what their secret passion is – run with it
  • Improvisation 1 - Story teller
  • Improvisation 2 - Death in a minute

Stage 3 - Creative Thinking

Now that the creative juices are flowing, we begin to apply them in practical ways, and look at techniques we can each use for thinking laterally and creatively. These tool also help us to see the broader picture – to refocus on priorities and see beyond the immediate pressures.

Warm up: The spaghetti marshmallow challenge

Technique 1: Team brain storming. We'll create an example of a real business challenge and the team will brain storm on the solution

Technique 2: Arguing. Without debate there is no conclusion. This deals with how to get everyone's voices heard but to align the team goals as an outcome.

Technique 3: Reflection. A powerful tool for achieving better productivity and creative thought which pulls on meditation and thought control practices to deliver clearer vision.
